August 7 1958 saw Herb Elliot pacing for Albie Thomas in the 2 Mile event at Santry Stadium. Albie Thomas won in a new World Record time of 8:32.0.

August 6 1958 will long be remembered as the day that John Landy's 1 Mile World Record was smashed by Herb Elliott at Santry Stadium in Dublin, Eire.

Just a month after breaking the 3 Mile World Record in the same stadium, Albie Thomas ran his first sub- 4 minute mile in the race that was to become known as the "World's Greatest Mile".

The Illawarra Mercury reported today that Tim Rowe has broken the open male record with his 4km run in 11:16 at the NSW Road Relay Championships on 2 Aug. Well done Tim!

Launceston Ten

St George athletes
Ben St Lawrence
and
Tim Rowe
have recorded podium finishes in the second annual running of the Launceston Ten road race in Launceston, Tasmania.

Billed as the fastest 10km road course in Australia after the first three finishers in 2007 recorded the three fastest 10km road race times in Australia last year, this year's event attracted a number of elite athletes who were challenged to break the course record.

Ben St Lawrence finished 2nd with Tim Rowe chasing him home in 3rd place.
