Congratulations to the large number of St. George runners who participated with pride in the NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships at Rydalmere on Saturday.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend on Saturday but have been made aware by a number of people the great club atmosphere and spirit that was present around the course and in the club tent. It was easily our best participation rate and our most successful NSW Championship this year so thank you to all who competed so well and made other clubs take notice of us.

NSW All Schools
Posted Saturday 20 Jul 2013 by Michael Gentle

Yesterday we had a strong number of our young distance running stars travel to Eastern Creek Raceway for the biggest junior cross country event in the state: the NSW PSSA/CHS/All Schools State Cross Country Championships.

All of our runners performed tremendously in very wet conditions. It is a great effort just to make it to this level but I would like to highlight two of our members who performed outstandingly in the event.

NSW PSSA BRONZE MEDALLIST -
Imogen Stewart
competed in the 8/9 Years Girls 2000m. Imogen ran a gutsy race to come home with the bronze medal. This is an amazing achievement, especially as she has another year in this age group and I'm sure many would agree that Imogen is a very promising and determined young athlete who gives every ounce of energy she has every time she runs.

NSW ALL SCHOOLS TEAM MEMBER -
Christopher Breen
competed in the 13 Years Boys 3000m. Christopher steadily progressed his way through the field and ended up finishing in 5th place. Due to this result, Christopher has been selected on the NSW All Schools State Team to contest the Australian Cross Country Championships in Tasmania. He has worked very hard and performed to his potential on the day.

Other Results:
  • 8/9 Years Girls 2km -
    Eloise Carey
    (29th) and
    Casey Stanley
    (51st)
  • 10 Years Boys 2km -
    Finn Macmillan
    (30th)
  • 10 Years Girls 2km -
    Emma Blanch
    (8th) and
    Lauren Carey
    (25th)
  • 12 Years Girls 3km -
    Lucy Koh
    (42nd)
  • 13 Years Girls 3km -
    Rhianna Turner
    (35th) and
    Nicole Harrington
  • 12/13 Years Girls 2km AWD -
    Isabella Conroy
  • 15 Years Boys 4km -
    Keegan Mason
    (39th)
  • 16 Years Boys 6km -
    Nathan Breen
    (15th)
  • 17 Years Boys 6km -
    Dylan McCuaig-Walton
    (18th)
  • 18+ Years Boys 8km -
    Badi Khamis
    (37th)

If anyone has any photos of yesterday's event please feel free to post on the St. George Facebook page or forward through to Michael Gentle to put on the website.

Outstanding Efforts

Over the weekend red hot athletic performances were achieved by two SGDAC members.

Ben St Lawrence
- A lot of great write ups following Ben's 5000m race on the weekend in Belgium finishing in second place in his second fastest time of his career (13:10.83). Nice timing to be looking good with the world Champs coming up in Moscow in September. Go the Saint!

Matt Rees
- Another super performance was also achieved over the weekend competing in the Newcastle Winter Series in the Javelin 700g. Matt Rees here set a new PB 65.93m breaking his own U18 SGDAC record that he previously set back on 9 February 2013. Fantastic job Matt!

We are saddened to advise that former club member John Wall passed away suddenly 1st July 2013. Deepest condolences to all his family.

John was a wonderful man and a great club member as well as being a talented athlete. He placed 2nd at the 1992-93 Australian Junior 1500m Championships (3:50.99) and won the 1994 NSW Novice Championship (32:04). He was a dedicated surf life saver at Maroubra and a keen competition tennis player.

Beloved son of Maureen and Ralph. Much loved brother of Jane, Anthony and Elizabeth and brother-in-law of Michael and Joe. Adored uncle of Ella-Maree, Jacob, Gabrielle, Thomas and James. Loved by many, a friend to all.
