Posted Saturday 18 Apr 2009 by Michael Gentle

Ben St Lawrence has stopped the clock in 13:25.88 at the Mt San Antonio College Relays, a personal best time and the third World Championships B-Qualifying time recorded by an Australian athlete this year.

This is also a new Club Record, beating the previous record of 13:27.31 set by John Andrews on 23 November 1989. Well done Ben - a super run.

Three weeks ago,
Ben Williams
was running at the local park when
John Steffensen
came over and introduced himself.

After chatting for some time, John invited Ben to come again the next day and he would teach Ben his warm up routine and run with him. After spending over an hour teaching Ben his stretches and drills and then racing him, John gave Ben an Australian Representative singlet and his mobile number so Ben could text John before his races.

Ben's text messages may have had an impact because at the Australian Championships John ran an A Qualifier in the 400m and was selected on the Australian Team to compete at the World Championships in Berlin in August! John has won us over as fans and we will be cheering for him every time he steps up to the line. You never know who you could meet at the park!
