World Athletics Tour Melbourne
Posted Friday 6 Mar 2009 by Michael Gentle

Three St George athletes competed in Melbourne last night in bleak and windy conditions. All managed to perform brilliantly in elite international fields.

Competing in the Men's 5000m, an event that was also the Australian 5000m Championship title race,
Ben St Lawrence
finished in fourth place behind three Olympians. This gives Ben second place in the National Title, and narrowly missed John Andrews' club record that was set in 1989.
Tim Rowe
finished in 12th place (9th Australian) with a season-best time, while
Stephen Thurston
finished 14th (11th Australian). In winning the event, Collis Birmingham defied the conditions to record a coveted Berlin A-qualifying time, while Andrew Baddeley and Bernard Kipagat both clocked B-qualifying times.

Bridey Delaney
backed up after last week's Sydney Track Classic to compete in the Women's 1500m. Bridey, the existing club record holder, ran well to finish in 5th place in yet another personal best effort.
